Some recipes just shouldn’t be messed with. This is one of them. Tried, true and impossible to resist.
12 cups puffed wheat
3/4 cup butter
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup brown sugar (not packed)
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
Butter a 9-by-13-inch pan, and set it aside. Next, measure the puffed wheat into an extra large mixing bowl.
Place the butter, corn syrup, brown sugar and cocoa in a pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil stirring constantly, and let it cook for 3 minutes (still stirring). Pour the mixture over the puffed wheat, mix well and press into the prepared pan. Let set for 15 minutes before slicing (good luck with that).
