FROM THE EDITOR

Sometimes, you just can’t beat the basics. A great pair of jeans, a cocktail served neat, a dinner so simple it practically makes itself… Drinking a cocktail in a great pair of jeans while dinner makes itself. Okay, now I’m reaching, but you get the idea. Simple pleasures just have a way of making us feel good. That’s why we’re bringing it back to basics.

To start, we’re heading to Grandin Bakery, where good things come to those who bake. From there, we switch gears to the savoury with a who’s who of salt and a recipe section that’s all meat and potatoes. We’re even introducing a new semi-regular feature called In the Spotlight. And to launch it, we’re shining a big, warm glow on—wait for it—Lard! Um, hello? Where’d everyone go? So, no. Maybe not the most obvious choice, but neither is Kanye West for president, and it’s been that kind of a month. Just trust us…

We’ve covered a bunch of other topics too, of course: the federal election, how to order a cocktail (a coincidence, we swear), even how to pick out a great pair of jeans. So tuck in, and enjoy the read.

It’s October, and we’re heading back to basics.
