FROM THE EDITOR

Rob Lightfoot's mugshotAs a longtime resident of St. Albert, I can attest that this city is one of the best places in which to live in Canada, a sentiment shared by the Globe and Mail. Last November, the daily placed the city at No. 31 in a Top 100 list, a rating still too low for my liking.

Naturally, the economy and living standards figured highly in that assessment, but it goes without saying that another amenity to consider is St. Albert’s inclusive attitude towards minorities. That includes the 2SLGBTQ+ community, which despite this city’s support, may become more vulnerable to restrictive provincial legislation, increasing hate crimes, and more frequent angry protests. On page X, we examine what the gay and transgender sector is likely to face.

Terry Evans might be Edmonton’s classic rock voice, but St. Albert has been the radio personality’s preferred residence for years. Find out why. And St. Albert wouldn’t be a prominent municipality had a bunch of entrepreneurs not gambled on its potential. Discover who these enterprising folks were.

We’ll also check out the works of local potter Jody Swanson, explore the social beer culture of Endeavour Brewing, provide six easy and tasty recipes that jibe with the spring season, and offer some suggestions on how to spruce up your yard.

We hope you enjoy the contents of this edition. It’s also our way of showing the rest of Canada why this city is really No. 1!
