ANNUAL VASA SPRING EXHIBITION—From April 4th to 29th, VASA is having its annual Members Spring Exhibition where the public will be able to meet and talk to the artists. On April 6th, there’ll be an opening reception from 6 pm to 9 pm.

ANNUAL ORCHID FAIR—From April 7th to 9th, the Orchid Society of Alberta presents its 40th Annual Orchid Fair. This is the largest show of its kind in Canada with orchid displays, art and photography, plus a variety of workshops to interest everyone. Judges from the American Orchid Society will be awarding the best of the best in orchids. Admission is $10 at the door.

NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY—On April 19th, all across Canada, celebrate Canadian films in honour of Canada’s 150th. There are venues all over the Greater Edmonton area, including the Alberta Aviation Museum, St. Albert Public Library and River Ridge Theatre. All films are free for this event.

SPRING INDIE HANDMADE—From April 21st to 23rd, your one-stop-shop of all things handmade in Canada returns to the Enjoy Centre. There’ll be over 100 vendors selling everything from flavoured honey to clothing. In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, go on Indie Handmade’s Facebook Page to enter to win 1 of 150 free admission tickets. One price of $5 gets you in all three days.

WORLD OF MUSIC & DANCE—On April 21st, the Community Refugee Committee of St. Albert is holding a fundraising concert to help sponsor refugees. The concert features music from the Middle East, China, India, North Africa and Canada. Refreshments will be offered afterwards.

ST. ALBERT CHAMBER MUSIC—On April 22nd, St. Albert Chamber Music Society presents Nora Bumanis and Keri Lynn Zwicker, two Canadian harpists from the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, plus Lizzy Hoyt who will be playing violin but is also an award-winning songwriter and vocalist.

HIGH ENERGY 22—From April 27th to May 26th, this annual exhibition, now in its 22nd year, showcases the emerging talent of St. Albert’s high school students. There’ll be everything from mixed-media abstractions to photo-realistic drawings, which includes course work and fresh pieces especially made for the exhibit.

SPRING ART SHOW & SALE—From April 28th to 30th, the St. Albert Painters Guild presents their annual spring show and sale. It’ll showcase many talented Guild artists. In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, there’ll be a weekend-long fundraiser in support of the St. Albert Food Bank.

DIG-IN FESTIVAL—On April 29th and 30th, Averton Homes presents St. Albert’s only “Horticulinary Festival.” There will be free workshops on everything from growing beer hops to butcher basics, get gardening advice from Jim Hole, and celebrity Chef Corbin Tomaszeski and Gusto TV’s Desiree Nielsen are teaming up with the Glasshouse Bistro to prepare some special dishes.
